About the Organization

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the east coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008. Since that time the mill has grown to two production lines and a capacity of 380,000 tonnes of world-class pulp per year.

Key to Harmac’s success is the employee ownership model. Our employees are very active participants in the running of the business and have 2 members that they appoint to the company’s 6 seats on its Board of Directors. 

The future of Harmac Pacific Pulp is looking bright. Through extensive capital investments, the organization has made significant improvements to productivity and reliability. In addition, as of 2013, the installation has been complete of a 25 MW Green Energy turbo-generator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro.

About the Opportunity

Harmac Pacific currently has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Project Engineer to join our team in Nanaimo, B.C.

The successful candidate will participate in the implementation of maintenance projects in the Steam and Recovery Boiler Area. 

To qualify for this role, you are a Professional Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of related industrial experience, a proven track record in your profession, and demonstrated ability to implement projects on ambitious timelines and cost objectives. You must also be extremely organized, and able to work well independently, and as part of a team. Previous experience in the Pulp & Paper industry will be a benefit in this position.

As our ideal candidate, you must be able to participate as a member of a team of business partners who have a common interest in the success of the business. You are an independent self-starter, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a sound base of knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment. You are highly organized and adaptable to changes in the work environment.
